*2025 stock* To mark Peter Thomas's 90th birthday on 1 December 2015, the Allscore label is releasing a double CD featuring the soundtrack composer's most creative recordings. The release once again makes it clear why Thomas is referred to as the ‘wizard of film music.’ It combines the scores for the three early 1970s films ‘Die Weibchen’ (The Females), ‘Oh Happy Day’ and ‘Engel, die ihre Flügel verbrennen’ (Angels Who Burn Their Wings). Although all three films flopped at the box office, their soundtracks still fit like a glove today.
For Oh Happy Day, Thomas offers themes ranging from dramatic solo piano to hashish-infused soul numbers to hard grooves; in Angels Who Burn Their Wings, on the other hand, the composer works with leitmotifs, especially in the erotic scenes set to music. The action-packed, pop-inspired soundtrack of ‘Weibchen’ is making its recording debut here. Apart from a single released at the time of the film's theatrical release and a few sequences on library LPs, music tracks from ‘Engel, die ihre Flügel verbrennen’ and ‘Oh Happy Day’ only became known in the wake of the easy listening revival of the 1990s. This release presents these two soundtracks for the first time in a film-specific context and, in some cases, in a considerably expanded form.
