*100 copies limited edition* Bishu Chattopadhyay’s Fragments is a collection of nine compositions shaped by movement, memory, improvisation, and the passage between worlds. Born and raised in Kolkata and now living in New York, Chattopadhyay has spent much of his life moving between musical and cultural landscapes. The album reflects that experience without attempting to resolve it: fragments of a life, fragments of a time, fragments of a world in which beauty and uncertainty exist side by side.

The inspiration for Fragments came from the feeling of finding a song inside another song—almost as if one song were chasing another. A melody holds the fragments of a life, but does not necessarily bring them to a conclusion. There is no natural ending. The endings on the album are, in a sense, forced endings; the music could continue beyond where it stops. That tension between continuation and interruption runs through the record.

The music was composed during a three-week residency at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts in the spring of 2025 and recorded in Brooklyn in the winter of 2026. Contemporary jazz provides the foundation, while elements of Indian music, free improvisation, composed music, and Chattopadhyay’s own musical history enter and recede throughout the album.
