*200 copies limited edition* Jump is a new pan-European trio bringing together three musicians from different generations and backgrounds: British pianist Pat Thomas, Danish saxophonist and composer Maria Dybbroe, and Italian vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Andrea S. Giordano. The three met in Oslo in August 2021, as the pandemic was finally beginning to loosen its grip. Their first encounter was immediate and symbiotic, making it clear that a new band had taken shape. Since then, Jump has toured across Europe, developing a shared musical language built on close listening, improvisation and a restless curiosity. Their debut album, Of all people..., arrives on New York's 577 Records on November 12, 2026.
Jump's music moves freely between avant-garde, experimental electronics, jazz, electro-pop and contemporary classical music. Rather than settling into any one of these territories, the trio uses them as points of departure, creating music that constantly shifts perspective. Piano cascades meet electronics; vocals and clarinet emerge from and disappear into percussive textures; melodic lines form, break apart and return in unexpected shapes. There is an openness and playfulness at the heart of the music. It can be absurd, beautiful, funny, raw or noisy, often within the same piece. The arrangements leave room for breathing, but never feel without direction. Beneath the apparent freedom is a strong collective sense of narrative: three improvisers responding to one another in real time, pushing the music into new rooms while maintaining a remarkably coherent language.
The trio's first public encounter was already met with enthusiasm. Writing for JazziNorge after their August 2021 performance at Oslo's Blowout Festival, Arild R. Andersen described the music as “electro-acoustic balance delicacy of highest quality,” noting how the trio “drive the music constantly through new rooms.” With Of all people..., Jump presents a debut that feels less like a statement of fixed identity than an opening of possibilities: three distinct voices meeting in the space between instant composition and improvisation, electronics and acoustics, structure and discovery.
