Lines in the Sky documents the first recorded meeting of a trio bringing together Lithuanian saxophonist Liudas Mockūnas, Argentinian guitarist Gon Muruaga, and Finnish drummer Teemu Mustonen. Recorded live in concert, the album captures seven collective improvisations that unfold with quiet inevitability, where form emerges through attentive listening rather than predetermined design. 

The music inhabits an open space between lyricism and abstraction. While its energy occasionally recalls the expansive language of the free jazz tradition, the trio is less concerned with stylistic reference than with discovering a shared vocabulary in real time. Melodic fragments appear and dissolve, rhythmic currents shift beneath evolving textures, and silence carries the same expressive weight as sound. Throughout the recording, saxophone, electric guitar, and percussion remain in constant dialogue. Mockūnas's expressive saxophone voice moves between clarity and turbulence with remarkable ease. Muruaga approaches the electric guitar as both a harmonic instrument and a source of texture, shaping spacious resonances as readily as incisive gestures. Mustonen extends the vocabulary of the drum set with a subtle palette of objects and preparations, creating an ever-changing foundation that is both responsive and unpredictable. 

Among the album's seven pieces, "Echoes from the Recent Past – Ballad" offers the recording's most direct point of reference. Inspired by Ornette Coleman's Lonely Woman, it does not reinterpret the composition so much as reflect on its emotional and melodic essence, allowing its influence to surface naturally within the trio's own collective language. Rather than presenting a sequence of individual statements, Lines in the Sky reveals the trio as a single, evolving organism. Each piece grows organically from collective decisions made in the moment, guided by trust, intuition, and an openness to the unexpected. Structures appear only to transform, allowing the music to breathe freely while maintaining an unmistakable sense of direction. 

There is no attempt to resolve tension or define boundaries. Instead, the recording embraces uncertainty as a creative force, inviting the listener into a space where sound continually redraws its own horizon. Lines in the Sky marks the beginning of a musical conversation—one rooted in deep listening, shared intuition, and the enduring possibilities of collective improvisation.
