A relic of the German DIY underground, fished out decades later. Hoffnung & Psyche were a duo in early-1980s Frankfurt, Stefan W. and Jutta K., who taped two tracks of stark minimal synth in a living room and ran off fifty cassette copies. In 2004 the Warendorf label Kernkrach, devoted to precisely this kind of lost bedroom electronics, pressed them onto a numbered 7" in an edition of a few hundred, hand-sprayed sleeve and all.
Cold drum machine, colder voice: the homemade fringe of the Neue Deutsche Welle. A reissue, and a small, strange treasure.
