Ingrid Drese

Interstices gathers eight acousmatic works that Ingrid Drese composed between 1996 and 2008, close to 110 minutes of music on a DVD-Audio. The pieces were realized in her own studio, at the Métamorphoses d’Orphée studio of Musiques & Recherches in Ohain, at the GMEM in Marseille and at the Ina-GRM. In the booklet, Francis Dhomont hears them unfold “like chapters of a long tale”.

Two works are built with writers. Tout autant (2000) sets a text by Étienne Leclercq in two levels that have “nothing in common”, while Sept œils sauvages (2003-04), commissioned by the Ina-GRM and premiered at the Maison de Radio France in 2005, lets short quotations from a fiction by Marc Jaffeux about a city built on the mobility of colours drift through the sounds. Voix de l’aurore (2006-07), a Musiques & Recherches commission dedicated to Annette Vande Gorne, grew from the experience of watching an observatory dome slowly open to the sky.

Horloge à feu (1998), an 8-channel piece, takes the old Chinese fire clock as a model of time, energy and space. Plis de la nuit (2008) is subtitled “Nocturne”, Sempre dolce is a gift for Dhomont’s 80th birthday, and Amaryllis (1996), built on concrete and synthesized sounds, won a 2nd prize at the Noroit-Léonce Petitot competition in 1997. Papillon, abîme, nuit (1999) was a finalist at the first Métamorphoses competition.

Born in Amel, Belgium, in 1957, Drese trained as a pianist in Namur before studying electroacoustic composition in Brussels and in Mons with Vande Gorne, earning the Prix supérieur in 1998. She taught acousmatic composition at the Conservatoire royal de Mons / Arts2 and has worked as an independent composer since 2020.
