The first solo album from the legendary director and composer of Halloween, Assault on Precinct 13, The Snake and many more! With the 15 films he has directed and composed the soundtracks for, John Carpenter has single-handedly defined the sound of the horror genre. The film music alone manages to instantly conjure up, in the musical memory of the devoted fan, the menacing figure lying in wait for the babysitter, the ghost-filled mist, the kung fu fighters with their lightning-fast fists, or the mirror that serves as a gateway to hell. The completely new music on ‘Lost Themes’ challenges Carpenter’s followers to visualise their own nightmares.
Carpenter remains true to his style: repetition is the key to the explosive power of these tracks, with whirlwinds of energy from shred chords, organs soaring to the heavens, unsettling piano tones and captivating percussion. Horror fans will be reminded of Carpenter’s past work, whilst also recognising references to Mike Oldfield’s ‘Tubular Bells’ and Goblin’s ‘Suspiria’. ‘They are little film scores for films in our heads,’ explains Carpenter. ‘Now I hope my album inspires people to make the films that this music fits.’
