Label: Matière Mémoire Éditions
Format: Etched Crystal Clear LP
Yet another stunning work from Kassel Jaeger - the once mysterious musical moniker of François Bonnet, the noted writer and artistic director of the legendary Parisian collective and studio Groupe de Recherches Musicales - appearing during a remarkably prolific period for the artist. Over the course of 2020, he managed to deliver an absolutely incredible series of LPs, In Cobalt Aura Sleeps - a duo with Jim O'Rourke - as well as Meith via Black Truffle and Swamps / Things via Shelter Press, not to mention publishing a steady stream of texts on top of his many other roles on the field of experimental music. We’re not sure how he does it.
Deeply invested in the potential of sound as an elemental form, Jaeger’s contribution to Matière Mémoire’s stunning MMXX Series, Vol Sombre (MMXX - 13), delves further into the unfolding expanses of delicate ambiences and long tones that he’s been exploring and building over the course of his career. Delicate sonorities dance within shimmering fields and drifting waves of tone, bravely pushing electroacoustic experimentalism toward the inwardly immersive and meditative.
Consuming, and absolutely beautiful and striking, Jaeger’s Vol Sombre (MMXX - 13) encounters one of the most ambitious artists in contemporary experimental music diving forward, once again, into unexplored zones. Issued in a limited edition of 500 copies on crystal-clear vinyl LP, with a laser engraved artwork on the second side, housed in a transparent sleeve printed with the MMXX logo, and containing an artist print by François Bonnet. Not to be missed!
Matière Mémoire presents the MMXX Series. In anticipation of the year 2020, Matière Mémoire asked 20 great artists to create an original 20 minutes piece and an artwork. Throughout this year, each quarter will see the release of 5 new vinyls, available individually or as a bundle. Each record is limited at 500 copies and comes as a crystal clear vinyl featuring an original track of 20 minutes on one side, and a laser engraved artwork on the other. Each contained in a transparent sleeve printed with the MMXX logo, and each coming with a print of the artist artwork.
