February 1985, Town Hall, New York, and Blue Note is relaunched with a concert that brings back essentially everyone still standing. Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard, Johnny Griffin, Curtis Fuller, Kenny Burrell, Jimmy Smith, Stanley Turrentine, Lou Donaldson, Reggie Workman, Grover Washington: the label's own history assembled on one stage and playing the book. Reunion concerts are usually sad. This one is not, largely because these were working musicians who had never stopped, and because the material had lost none of its charge.
Japanese Blue Note pressing. The night the label came back, documented properly.
