Hidden in a remote, forgotten corner of German library music, Peter Patzer stands as a unique figure in the landscape of 1980s functional music production. A self-taught artist and musician, Patzer founded his own personal label, Crea Music, operating in complete autonomy from his base in Bremen, northern Germany. Between 1983 and 1989 he produced eight white vinyl LPs, all featuring the same austere tricolor sleeve - red, white and blue - with title and catalog number typewritten. A minimalist approach that concealed a sonic universe of surprising richness.
Patterns is the first compilation dedicated to this submerged catalog, curated by Jonny Trunk after years of research culminating in the writing of The Music Library Book. The record traverses Patzer's entire output, from the kosmische landscapes of Sunrise and Indian Summer to the post-disco drifts of Disco Funk, from the rhythmic explorations of CPU and Space Rhythm to the cinematic atmospheres of Waters and Geysirs and Last Vegas.
Patzer's sound inhabits a liminal zone between new age, synthwave and ambient, where enveloping synth pads intertwine with measured drum machine patterns and melodies that seem to float suspended in time. This is music conceived for unrealized images, phantom documentaries and imaginary commercials - yet it possesses an aesthetic coherence and identity that transcends its original function.
A precious discovery that illuminates a previously unexplored corner of European library music.
