Rare 2009 self-released CD-only album to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of the Danish sextet that recorded the legendary Nu! LP on Debut.
condition (disc/cover): M / M
In April 1966 Hugh Steinmetz recorded Nu! for the Danish Debut label, a free jazz session by his sextet. Decades later he brought that sextet back together for this privately produced CD on Hummin' Records.
The title is a pun with a dedication inside it: the new music is written for Don Cherry, the trumpeter who spent long periods in Scandinavia from the late 1960s. Two of the original sextet are back alongside the leader's trumpet: Karsten Vogel, the alto saxophonist of Cadentia Nova Danica, and Niels Harrit of the Contemporary Jazz Quintet.
