More early-1970s free music from the MND circle, taped mostly at Hamburg's Fabrik: Sven-Åke Johansson, Norbert Eisbrenner and cellist Peter Dyck with guests, on a double LP that follows Freedom Suite.

Once krautrock became a genre with its own canon, its history as a social movement slipped out of view, together with the wider web of players, local scenes and venues that produced it. The music grew up in scattered groups across West Germany, where musicians from rock, jazz and contemporary composition met to play a free music that belonged to none of those camps.

One of those places was the short-lived Zodiak Free Arts Lab in West Berlin, run in the late 1960s by Conrad Schnitzler and Hans-Joachim Roedelius, where Kluster, Tangerine Dream and others played their earliest, genuinely free sets. Another group to come out of the Zodiak was MND (Moderne Nordeuropäische Dorfmusik, Modern North European Village Music). Because drummer Sven-Åke Johansson and guitarist Norbert Eisbrenner came from jazz, MND are often filed under free jazz, though their music had no genre at all: Johansson used the kit to make what he called dynamic vibrations, close to an echo device, and Eisbrenner worked out a table-top guitar technique of his own, possibly before anyone else.

MND released a single LP in 1969, and Johansson's archive has since yielded several posthumous albums, most recently Freedom Suite on Edition Telemark in 2020. This double LP collects more tapes from the early 1970s, most of them made at the Fabrik in Hamburg, a cultural and community centre opened in 1971. The line-ups vary, so the music goes out not as MND but as Fabrikmusik, factory music.

The long piece across sides A and B has Johansson and Eisbrenner with cellist Peter Dyck and Hamburg trumpeter Helmuth Neumann (Fabrik, 1972). Side C is a duo of Johansson and MND violist Werner Götz at the Fabrik in 1971, and side D a Dyck and Johansson recording from the artists' commune in Mariental, Lower Saxony, whose story was told on Freedom Suite.

Double LP on Edition Telemark (940.02), single sleeve with two printed inner sleeves reproducing photographs by Sven-Åke Johansson.
