Back in 1994, members of Seefeel (Sarah Peacock), Knives ov Resistance (Tony F Wilson aka Spykidelic) and Slowdive (Neil Halstead) collaborated on a remarkable recording project entitled Zurich, which has until very recently been lost in the mists of time. When Touch Recordings artist Mark Van Hoen discovered the tracks on an old CD, he duly passed them to Important who've manufactured 500 copies at the world-renowned RTI pressing plant, packaged in heavy duty jackets screen printed at Monoroid. The project was initiated by Halstead and Tony F Wilson just prior to Slowdive's final LP 'Pygmalion', and uncannily recalls classic Seefeel as well as the Ambient techno of the AI skool of Aphex and Autechre, and in particular "Phat Lab Nightmare" era Wagon Christ. For anyone who cherishes this period of electronic music, tracks like 'Tzarist' will immediately remind of Polygon Window's seminal 'Surfing On Sine Waves', while the glacial melodics of 'A Harsh Truth' take us straight back to the moving austerity of Ae's ethereal 'Amber' album. Perhaps incongruous, but equally interesting is 'The Mastmaker' which combines Oren Ambarchi-style bass drone with the kind of frozen tones found on S.A.W II, while the final 2 tracks feature Wilson working with producer/engineer Joe Gray to mould crushed dub dynamics with a more dusted percussive element. We're more than a little shocked by this release and reckon there's a lot of you out there who will be gobsmacked by these recordings - we really can't recommend this highly enough.
