Carl Michael von Hausswolff, born in Linköping in 1956, is a Swedish composer, visual artist and curator, considered one of the reference figures in performance audio and radical music. Developing his research into the physicality of sound, he uses video, tape recorders, radar and sonar to explore electricity, frequencies, architectural spaces and paranormal electrical interference. He has always been drawn to EVP, the electronic voice phenomena in which voices from other dimensions are said to be caught on tape, and works to bring hidden elements to light.

Travelogue [Bali] is the second in an ongoing series of collected international audio diaries. The premise is quite simple: the two meet at a mutually agreed upon destination along with the facilitation of something to record audio of these experiences on. The intent is to capture and augment these sonic documentaries of their travels which then are sculpted into soundtracks. This is done by sourcing the culture, environment, persons or events that make their voices available.

*Limited Edition of 200 copies.* Autopsia is a cult art project dealing with music and visual production. Its art practice began in London in the late 1970s and continued during the 1980s in the art centers of the former Yugoslavia. Since 1990, Autopsia has acted from Prague, Czech Republic. Above all Autopsia is not concerned with music. What is Autopsia? Art? Theory? Framing? Projection? Gaze? Autopsia is language is image is sound. Autopsia is atombstone on the grave of time. Autopsia is arch…
Recorded during an evening organized by the Die Stadt label on the 28th of March 1997 at the Lagerhaus in Bremen (Germany). Originally released as limited and numbered edition of 222 copies.
Celebrated Scandinavian experimentalist CM Von Hausswolff pays respect to the great John Cage with this release which includes a homage to Cage’s seminal 4’33”. For his interpretation, the minimalist uses an electric guitar and a faulty amplifier to highlight the finer details that come to the fore in the format. Taking on the godfather of experimentalism is no simple task but the fresh take from Von Hausswolff stops this release falling into any kind of ‘cover version’ category. This is a limit…
Two rare historical recordings (1983 and 1986) originally released as single sides and gathered here for the first time. "Conductor might be my favourite composition and Life And Death Of Pboc might be my most sincere. Conductor was my first composed piece with no obvious reference points ... Life And Death Of Pboc was the second. These two compositions gave me the title Godfather of Dark Ambient."Carl Michael von Hausswolff, born in 1956 in Linköping, Sweden, lives and works in Stockholm. Since…
*300 copies limited edition* "the very reason i initiated this project was vanished in time. however, it’s not very long time since it has suspending into this “physical object is dying” and “society is dying” situation. and it’s long enough to coming back with ideas of “connecting objects and bodies over language” and “connecting an outer territory”. so i have diving back to the files again, starting editing and translating, inviting few more physical entities and fortunately yihao joined as de…
"The Wind In Kirtipur is a piece in two parts using normal and treated location recordings, pitched Tibetan thigh bone horn and singing bowls. Recordings were made at the Bagh Bhairab Temple in Kirtipur, at the Swayambhunath Stupa in Kathmandu and inside the walls of the Kumari Ghar where the 'Kumari Devi' (Living Goddess) lives in Kathmandu, Nepal. ** Edition of 300 ** 13 Presents Landslide by Gianluca Favaron, Stefano Gentile, Carl Michael Von Hausswolff and Rod Modell. On October 9, 1963, 260 million cubic meters of rock broke off from the top of Monte Toc. It fell into the reservoir of the Vajont dam, producing an enormous wave of at least 50 million cubic meters of water. The dam, completed in 1959 and one of the biggest in the world at the time, did not suffer any serious damage. However, flooding destroyed several villages in the val…

Edition of 200. Two creative and sound arty musicians are paired together here on this split LP from Poland’s Bocian label. Robert Piotrowicz gives us some intense analog synth-work, with overlapping pulse and tone action that’ll blast you. Carl Michael Von Hausswolff goes with subtle, quieter noise works that are all about explorations of texture. Great stuff on both sides of this highly limited LP.
"Galleri Niklas Belenius is pleased to present Carl Michael von Hausswolff´s second solo exhibition at the gallery. For the past several years Hausswolff has continued to explore the possibility of exposing different architectural and topographical settings with red light. The exhibition brings together five photographs from his Red series.By photographing different settings using high-voltage red light, the image itself, or rather the subject of it, emanates from the means by which it is convey…
Carl Michael Von Hausswolff is yet another artist in Matière Mémoire Éditions’ MMXX series with decades of remarkable work behind him. Stockholm based, since the 1970s he has worked as a composer using the tape recorder as his main instrument, while making often controversial interventions into the world of visual art. For the MMXX series he created a work entitled For Marietta, a vast reverent expanse of ambience, filled with shadowy images of the natural world, presumably collected as field re…
Renowned EVP expert and dark interpreter CM von Hausswolff gets down to the nitty gritty of morality in art with a fascinating, newly augmented collection of sound installation recordings made 2001-2003 in response to Stockhausen’s controversial comments on 9/11 and now released by Sähko. ‘Addressing the Fallen Spirit’ employs an oblique collage of recordings from various installation works as the vehicle for Carl Michael Von Hausswolff’s thoughts on the intersection of art and morality. It’s o…
**100 copies** 13 bless us with the due re-issue of a masterful track created by Carl Michael Von Hausswolff for their "8+8" series that was originally published on a single-sided lathe cut record (8 copies only!) back in 2015. This time 'Cut down and Re-order' comes as a limited edition 10" vinyl record, and the flipside offers a completely unreleased piece which is dedicated to Zbigniew Karkowski. Both numbers are pure bliss - and ecstastic in equal measure - with the title track also borderin…
**Edition of 300 copies** The time-stopping tract of ’In, Demons, In!’ is a naturally elemental drone collaboration between eminent experimentalists Jim O’Rourke and CM Von Hausswolff for their eternal admirers at iDEAL Recordings. Offering a transfixing peek behind the curtain of pure black hole drone dynamics, ‘In, Demons, In!’ finds the American in Japanese exile and the proclaimed monarch of the imaginary kingdoms of Elgaland-Vargaland meeting on common ground after 26 years of international…

Squared Squared consists of two longer pieces. a) is a recording of a live performance executed at ZKM in Karlsruhe. It is an abstract piece of music that has evolved during the time the composer has performed live – since 1980. For the composer, generally, a live performance is always the “same thing”, but listening to the early recordings it occurs that the music has changed drastically – only the format is still there. This is analogue to life in general – Earth looks the same like alwa…

'CD digipak. CM von Hausswolff says: 'I was approached by my old friend and Radium 226.05 colleague Ulrich Hillebrand, now director of Angered Theatre in Göteborg. He informed me that there was a new play in the process of being written by author and theorist Michael Azar called 'Jag r en annan' (I is another) stemming form the famous letter written by Arthur Rimbaud in his youth. The play uses Rimbaud's life from being a young poet in Charleville ending with him being the trader in Harar,…
A split album by two masters of 'loud drone music' with an entirely electronic background. Piotrowicz already surprised us with 'Lasting Clinamen' on CD (see review in Vital Weekly 621), and this is now continued with 'Clinamen 3', also recorded using analog modular synthesizer. He plays what seems a loud, looped drone (no doubt repeated within the machine), which is piercingly loud at the start, but just like his great CD, he knows how to create a subtle piece music after that. It grows and it …

This double disc set includes some of the most unusual sounds you will have heard from Carl Michael von Hausswolff. The story goes like this. Von Hausswolff was chosen by the 1997 Istanbul Biennal to create a sound installation for Atatürk Airport. His classic sound combining low frequency rumblings, very monotonous oscillations and hissy non-narrative sequences was deemed too confusing for the commutors. It was feared, von Hausswolff’s sound installation might be mistaken for an alarm and would…
Released in conjunction with a live performance that took place at the 'Lagerhaus' Bremen on 26. September 2003. Exclusive tracks by all three artists. John Duncan's 'The Gossamer Dispatch' is another fine example of his work with Shortwave sounds and a sort of more aggressive version of his acclaimed 'Phantom Broadcast' CD. C.M. von Hausswolff delivers a spoken word piece for the first time 'The way The Breeze Lays'. 'The Gobblestone Is The Weapon Of The Proletariat. No 8' by Leif Elggren is a …
Minimalist sound artist CM Von Hausswolff gives his two cents on the state of overdevelopment in various urban environments the world over in this, his second disc for the Sub Rosa label. It's hard to say precisely how the music here relates to town planning: Von Hausswolff concentrates on conjuring the kind of stark, austere glitch-driven soundscapes found on his work for labels like Raster Noton, using what sounds to be entirely synthetic sources, so again, it's difficult to establish any conc…
Features two unreleased tracks recorded in 2006 - in his installation The Complete Operations Of Spirit Communication, Carl Michael von Hausswolff takes up central themes of his previous work and adapts them for a display especially created for the series O.K Spektral

'23five Incorporated proudly presents Our Telluric Conversation - the second collaborative album from John Duncan and Carl Michael von Hausswolff. This is an album which Duncan describes as having been galvanized by magnetism. In a semantic sleight of hand, Duncan and Hausswolff reveal magnetism through a duality of meanings. One on hand, they speak of the physical phenomenon of charged objects that exert an attraction or repulsion upon other objects; yet on the other, magnetism can be defined t…
