Pan Sonic were a Finnish electronic duo formed in Turku in 1993 by Mika Vainio and Ilpo Väisänen, and active until 2009. They made minimal electronic music from pulses, tones and noise, and released most of their albums on the British label Blast First. The group first recorded as Panasonic and dropped a letter after the electronics company threatened legal action, a change the title of their 1999 album A alludes to. Pan Sonic released their first records on the Finnish label Sähkö, including the Panasonic EP in 1994.
Three Panasonic remixes made in 1996 by Zoviet France and by Muslimgauze, found on DAT decades later and issued by Sähkö in 2020: one side of Zoviet France, two Muslimgauze pieces. Repress.
On Muuntaja / Murtaja, Pan Sonic in their Vainio–Väisänen–Salo phase deliver two 1994 shockwaves of beat science: brutally reduced, system‑stressing tracks that turn the dance floor into a pressure chamber of pure voltage and rhythm.
