For decades the Italian monthly Musica Jazz issued LPs alongside the magazine, licensed from every catalogue it could reach, and those records introduced a generation of Italian listeners to music that was otherwise unavailable or unaffordable. This Charles Mingus volume is one of them: a compiled survey, annotated in Italian, produced with the seriousness the magazine brought to everything. Records like this are why the Italian jazz audience of the seventies and eighties was as well-informed as it was, and they have become collectible for reasons that have as much to do with cultural history as with the music.
Musica Jazz pressing, Italy. A piece of Italian jazz history as much as a Mingus record.
