Paris, April 1964, and the most celebrated tour Charles Mingus ever undertook. The sextet had Eric Dolphy, who would be dead within three months, Clifford Jordan on tenor, Johnny Coles on trumpet until illness took him off the tour, Jaki Byard at the piano and Dannie Richmond behind, and it played the book at enormous length and enormous intensity. Three LPs of "Meditations On Integration", "Fables Of Faubus", "Parkeriana" and "So Long Eric", all stretched far beyond their studio lengths and all constantly rebuilt on the spot. Dolphy's playing here is among the last and best of his life.
