Patty Waters had recorded a thirteen-minute version of "Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair" for ESP that dissolved a folk song into shrieks and left listeners genuinely shaken; College Tour is what came next, recorded on campuses in 1966 with a shifting cast including Burton Greene and Ran Blake. Her voice moves between an almost unbearable intimacy and something closer to keening. Then she stopped recording for nearly thirty years. Nobody has sounded like her before or since.
