A few years on from the Palladium concert and the roster had grown: Jack DeJohnette, Eumir Deodato, Airto Moreira, Bob James, Grover Washington, Joe Farrell and a good many others joining the core CTI crew at the Hollywood Bowl. Records like this are documents of a very specific commercial moment, when a jazz label could fill an amphitheatre on the strength of its house style. What redeems them is the calibre of the players: put Stanley Turrentine and Freddie Hubbard on a stage with a rhythm section this good and something is going to happen regardless of the marketing.
