1970, and Creed Taylor's brand new CTI label gets its defining hit. Stanley Turrentine had spent the sixties making organ-and-tenor records for Blue Note; here he takes that same enormous, blues-soaked sound and puts it over an eleven-minute vamp with Freddie Hubbard and George Benson alongside him and Ron Carter holding the bottom. The title track became one of the most played, sampled and covered pieces in the whole soul-jazz repertoire, and the reason is simple: the groove never lets up and Turrentine's tone is one of the great sounds in the music.

Japanese King / CTI pressing. The CTI record everyone owns, and rightly.
