A rare offset print by the radical German composer and visual artist. Published by Edition Block in an edition of 60, signed and numbered, 50 x 100 cm. Dieter Schnebel (*1930 Lahr – †2018 Berlin) was among the most uncompromising figures in post-war experimental music, exploring the boundaries between sound, silence, notation, and performance. A student of theology and musicology, Schnebel brought rigorous intellectual inquiry to his compositions, which often investigated the physical gestures of music-making, the theatricality of performance, and the visual dimensions of musical notation. His works for "visible music" treated performers' movements as integral compositional elements. Für Git (For Git[ar]) extends Schnebel's investigation of graphic notation and visual scores into printed form. The work reflects his fascination with the guitar as an instrument of both avant-garde experimentation and popular culture, bridging high and low musical traditions. Schnebel collaborated extensively with John Cage, Mauricio Kagel, and the Fluxus movement, while maintaining his own distinctive voice that combined rigorous conceptualism with playful subversion. Published by Edition Block, the legendary Berlin publisher founded by René Block who championed experimental music and Fluxus artists, this print represents a crucial document of Schnebel's visual practice.
