Hisham Akira Bharoocha (Soft Circle) and patten recorded this EP on 30 June 2015 at the Barbican during Doug Aitken's Station to Station, drawing on sounds of the building and of The Vinyl Factory's on-site press; 300 copies in unique Åbäke sleeves.

June 30th takes its title from the day Hisham Akira Bharoocha and patten recorded it in 2015, inside the Barbican in London. The occasion was Doug Aitken's Station to Station: A 30 Day Happening. Aitken's project had crossed North America by train in 2013. Its London chapter filled the arts centre from 27 June to 26 July 2015 with residencies, performances, workshops and screenings. The Vinyl Factory built a recording studio there and installed its mobile vinyl press. Sessions made in the building could be cut and pressed a few rooms away. This EP is one of those records, a two-day residency turned into an object that still carries the sound of the place.

Bharoocha is a New York artist working across music, visual art and photography. He was a founding member of Lightning Bolt and Black Dice, and later started the solo project Soft Circle. VF notes that an earlier sound piece with Aitken, performed at MoMA, led to this invitation. patten is a London project, then on Warp with the EP Eolian Instate and the album Estoile Naiant. The Barbican programme set their sessions on 30 June and 1 July. It announced a score drawing on sounds from the building and the artists' environments. VF reported that patten went to the press itself to capture the industrial sounds made as records are pressed. The machine would end up on the disc it was making. Side A gathers seven short pieces, from Six and Industrial through Punk, Water, Ambient #1 and Somni to L. Side B holds a single piece, One Take. The music was produced by Justin Stanley. The sleeves were part of the work too. Åbäke, the design collective that held the second design residency at the exhibition, printed every cover by hand on site. With a small team they worked with ink pads and wood glue mixed with sand.

This is the standard and only edition, VF186: a 12" on black vinyl, pressed on The Vinyl Factory Press at the Barbican in July 2015. Each copy has a unique hand-printed mixed-media sleeve by Åbäke Studio, and the edition is limited to 300 copies.
