Four soundtracks by Actress, Gwilym Gold, Holly Pester and Evan Ifekoya with Victoria Sin for Eddie Peake's performance To Corpse, staged in Naples and Stromboli in July 2017. Double clear LP, 500 copies.

To Corpse gathers the music written for a performance by the British artist Eddie Peake, premiered in July 2017 between Naples and the volcanic island of Stromboli. The occasion was Volcano Extravaganza, the festival of the Fiorucci Art Trust, which Peake led that year under the title I Polpi (The Octopuses), with The Vinyl Factory among its partners. In theatre slang, to corpse is to break character with a fit of laughter, and Peake took the word for a work in five variations.

The idea was simple: the same choreography, five locations, five soundtracks, each played live by its composers with five dancers. In Naples, the electronic producer Actress scored the version in the courtyard of the MADRE museum, and Gwilym Gold the one in San Giuseppe delle Scalze, an abandoned seventeenth-century church. The poet Holly Pester accompanied the third at sunset in the Solfatara crater with a spoken tale. On Stromboli, Evan Ifekoya and Victoria Sin played around midnight at the club Megà. The fifth variation, at dawn on the shore, had only the sound of the island, so the record holds four pieces, one per side.

Side A is Actress's Volcano Extravaganza, named after the festival itself. Side B is Gold's Romance Layers Cadenza, from a musician who had already worked closely with Peake, improvising at the piano for weeks beside his dancers at White Cube. Side C turns to the voice with Pester's The Fishmonger's Breath, the text she performed in the crater. Side D, The Tectonic Bassline of Your Love Spread Her Like Peanut Butter, comes from Ifekoya and Sin, both interdisciplinary artists, and was first heard in a club. Four very different kinds of music share a single choreography.

The festival framed everything as a 96-hour journey, with the ferry from Naples to Stromboli as part of the route. Peake also reprised earlier works along the way: Touch (2012) returned in a new version, and in Fox (2005) performers swapped costumes on board the ferry. The double album is a co-release with HYMN, the imprint Peake set up with The Vinyl Factory. It keeps a record of a piece that existed for a few days in five places. Actress appears under exclusive license from Ninja Tune.

Double LP on heavyweight 180-gram clear vinyl in a gatefold sleeve with two printed inner sleeves, limited edition of 500 copies worldwide, co-released with HYMN.
