Five compositions from 1977 to 1983 for several combinations of instruments (from cello solo to big ensemble) released on Harmonia Mundi's "Evénement / Musique française d'aujourd'hui" series in 1984.

condition (record/cover): NM / NM Gatefold sleeve.  Marc Monnet signs La Scène on Harmonia Mundi, a title announcing theatrical concerns that would define much of his career. "The scene" suggests stage, spectacle, the place where drama unfolds. Monnet's music never forgets that sound happens in space, that listening is bodily, that concert halls are theaters whether they admit it or not.

Monnet studied at the Paris Conservatoire, absorbed the lessons of Gérard Grisey and the spectralists, then moved in his own direction. His interest in theater led to operatic works, collaborations with directors and visual artists, an expanded practice that this early disc already hints at. Harmonia Mundi's release captures a composer at the beginning of a trajectory that would take him far from purely instrumental concerns.
