Edition of 150. Magick Knives are a four-piece from the Sonoran Desert who deal in cinematic post-punk and darkwave, built on hypnotic bass, ghostly guitar and shimmering synth. The group centres on vocalist and bassist Sonia Campbell and the guitarist and synth player Daniel Martin Diaz, also of Trees Speak, and their self-titled debut was released earlier in 2026. The two tracks reworked here, Existence and Some Night, come from that record.
On the A-side, Justin Robertson reshapes Existence under his Five Green Moons name, slowing it into a dub: the song dismantled into drifting fragments, with clanking percussion, vibraphone and reeds moving through a wide, echo-heavy space. The pulse is reggae-wise and loose, closer to live improvisation than to a club edit, the vocal surfacing only in pieces. On the flip, Hawksmoor, the Bristol synthesist and a regular in this label's orbit, takes Some Night somewhere darker and slower, dissolving the original into brooding analogue synth and a steady, ceremonial throb. Where Robertson opens the track out, Hawksmoor draws it inward.
