José Javier Castro (1965-2022) was a Peruvian artist and musician who emerged in the 1980s, known as the leader, guitarist and singer of the experimental rock group El Aire and as an emblematic figure of the Lima underground. From the early Nineties he also ran projects in electronic experimentation, leaning toward ambient and cosmic music, for soundtracks, sound installations and his own band, and he left a large archive of unpublished recordings. Melodía a Gianni Toti en dos partes is a first publication meant to show that other side of his work.
Castro met the work of the Italian artist Gianni Toti as a collaborator on the Túpac Amauta project, directed by Toti and produced at the Centro Internacional de Creación de Video. In 1999 he was invited there as a resident artist for the project's second part. The piece was composed in 2021, inspired by Toti's visions of music and aesthetics, and is described as a spontaneous tribute and thanks to him. It runs over the two sides of the 7-inch: Per Gianni - Parte 1 at 45 rpm and Per Gianni - Parte 2 at 33 rpm. Castro composed and produced it, Alberto Cendra mastered it at Garden Lab Audio, the artwork is by Rommina Dolorier, and the photographs of Castro are by Edi Hirose.
7-inch, Buh Records (BR173) in collaboration with Alta Tecnologia Andina, limited to 250 copies.
