Los Angeles, early 1946, and Charlie Parker is at the height of his powers and about to fall apart completely. The first volume of Ross Russell's Dial sessions contains "Moose The Mooche", "Yardbird Suite", "Ornithology" and the version of "A Night In Tunisia" whose four-bar alto break is still handed to students as a test they will fail. Miles Davis is on trumpet, nineteen years old and audibly out of his depth next to the older man. Within months Parker would be committed to Camarillo State Hospital. This is what he sounded like just before.

Spotlite edition of the Dial masters, Japanese pressing. The most important small-label sessions in the history of the music.
