1970's UK re-press on Spotlite of the 1970 compilation with recordings from 1945/1947 featuring Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie.

condition (record/cover): NM / NM

Late 1947, the same New York quintet, and the last of the great Dial sessions before Charlie Parker moved on to Norman Granz and the strings. The material here is the deep end of the bop songbook: contrafacts built on standards, ballads taken at a tempo that lets Parker demonstrate what he could do with a melody when he was not sprinting, and enough alternate takes to show exactly how his thinking worked from one attempt to the next. Max Roach is extraordinary throughout. Miles Davis, on the way out of the band, plays some of his best early work.

Spotlite edition, Japanese pressing. The end of the Dial run and the last word on the classic quintet.
