*200 copies limited edition* Ukrainian sound artist Tungu, a.k.a. Sergiy Senchuk, has long been operating in this domain and has a huge array of collaborations and solo work behind him, besides a background starting over two decades ago in metal and hardcore music. For over ten years now, however, he has been responsible for producing electronic music that draws from improvisation, abstract sound and electroacoustic composition. Paranormal Awakening catches him collaborating with equally prolific mainstay of the Japanese underground, Tabata Mitsuru, who himself has long forged a solo path with a form of experimental psychedelia itself open to all manner of expression in addition to his work in groups such as 20 Guilders, Acid Mothers Temple, Zeni Geva, Green Flames and others as well as being a founding member of The Boredoms.

Over the course of the eight cuts presented here, serrated electronics spiral alongside decidedly old school synth churn, otherworldly sonic dimensions collapsing inwardly, angular jabs, melodic fragments pulled into new shapes and those all-consuming yet atmospheric blankets of sound perfect for bathing the outermost reaches of the mind in. While it’s nothing short of a cliche to compare the tracks unfolding on an album to a journey of some kind, that’s precisely how everything on 'Paranormal Awakening' feels.
