A mighty split release from two of today's most progressive underground metal bands, bringing together the formidable post-doom of Brooklyn's A Storm Of Light and the luminous sludge of Canadian duo Nadja. The real question here is whether or not the music can come anywhere close to the awesome sleeve art, and while that may not even be possible, the twenty-two minute epic from Nadja has a decent go at it. While A Storm Of Light throw everything at their plodding, Wagnerian outings 'Brother' and 'Sister', Nadja go all out for their customarily strange shoegaze-influenced noise metal, carving out an epic instrumental that's all fuzz, synthesizers and gated snare reverb. The two acts remix one another yielding excellent results on both occasions. ASOL's 'Brother' has the vocals scooped out, which actually makes the piece rather more streamlined and powerful - it's like a particularly heavy and psychedelic Mogwai track in places. A very fine release all round.
