Another Timbre presents The Willow Bends and So Do I, a new work from Swedish composer Magnus Granberg, performed by his long-running ensemble Skogen. Known for their subtle explorations of time, fragility, and sonority, Granberg and Skogen craft music that hovers between composition and improvisation, weaving delicate structures that unfold with profound patience.  

At the heart of this recording lies Granberg’s distinctive method of filtering fragments of historical repertoire through a contemporary lens, reshaping old materials into new constellations. In The Willow Bends and So Do I, ghostly echoes of past music mingle with finely detailed textures, creating a listening experience that feels both timeless and deeply of the present. The ensemble’s instrumentation—spanning strings, winds, percussion, and electronics—shifts in and out of focus, inviting the listener into a sound world of quiet resonance and ever-changing perspective.  

Skogen, founded in 2005, brings together a flexible roster of musicians specializing in experimental and improvised practices. Their longstanding collaboration with Granberg has yielded some of the most subtle and distinctive works in contemporary chamber music, where each voice contributes to an atmosphere of collective listening and restraint.
