Alan Licht, born in 1968, is an American guitarist, composer and writer whose work joins pop, noise, free jazz and minimalism. A fixture of the New York downtown scene, he has played in Love Child and Run On, in duos and groups with Loren Connors, Rudolph Grey and Lee Ranaldo, and made his own long-form guitar pieces built on repetition and drone, among them the hour-long Sink. He is also one of the sharpest writers on experimental music, author of books on sound art and on Will Oldham, a longtime contributor to The Wire, and the interviewer who has drawn out many of the scene's central figures.
