Bill Evans
Bill Evans (1929-1980) was an American jazz pianist, born in Plainfield, New Jersey. He played in Miles Davis's sextet in 1958 and returned in 1959 to record Kind of Blue. He then led a series of piano trios, among them the one he formed in late 1959 with bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian. That trio recorded Portrait in Jazz (1959) and Explorations (1961), and its 1961 engagement at the Village Vanguard produced Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby. LaFaro died in a car crash ten days later.
