Bill Evans

Riverside Records is proud to announce the release of “Trio ’64”, the latest album from the acclaimed Bill Evans Trio. This pivotal recording marks a singular gathering of musical brilliance, bringing together legendary pianist Bill Evans, renowned bassist Gary Peacock, and celebrated drummer Paul Motian for an unforgettable exploration of the jazz trio format.

With “Trio ’64,” the group demonstrates a remarkable shift from bravura solos to a more subtle artistry, focusing instead on the evocative interplay, refined harmony, and lyrical improvisation that have become hallmarks of Evans’ style. From the whimsical charm of “Little Lulu” to the elegant reimagining of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” and the timeless grace of “Always,” the trio’s approach is characterized by its intimate mood, spacious arrangements, and quiet intensity.

Unlike any other lineup in Evans’ storied career, this collaboration with Peacock and Motian reveals a delicate yet deeply expressive balance. The album is a testament to the ongoing evolution of the modern jazz piano trio—showcasing the group’s ability to communicate profound emotion and sophisticated musical ideas with subtlety and restraint.

Already hailed by critics as an understated gem, “Trio ’64” is poised to become an essential addition to every jazz lover’s collection and a lasting milestone in the Bill Evans discography.
