Kevin Drumm

Avant-garde tabletop guitarist Kevin Drumm was born and raised in 1970 in South Holland, IL, playing in a handful of rock bands before relocating to Chicago in 1991 to work at the city's Board of Trade. He soon began his experiments with prepared guitar, applying objects including magnets, binder clips, chains, a violin bow and even toenail clippers to distort the instrument's sound; in time Drumm befriended a number of members of Chicago's growing improv community, including Jim O'Rourke, Gastr del Sol's Upgrade and Afterlife album and Ken Vandermark.

I drink your skin
CD reissue of 2001 recording, originally released on cassette by American Tapes. Kevin and I traded raw material at some point in 2001. After discussing a collaboration I found a cassette of unreleased material of myself messing with Renaissance (the band) and junk noise 8-track loops on the floor of my car as I was getting ready to leave for home from a Chicago trip. A couple days later Kevin sent me a mini-disc of his own unreleased material.. His disc was caked in spilled coffee or something …
Relief
Once more Chicago’s finest delivers another devastating slab of emotionally charged noise. Its been 10 years since the epic statement that was ‘Sheer Hellish Miasma’.  Since then Drumm has trawled through the depths of the global underground with a back breaking speed, adding many masterful releases to his oeuvre for labels the world over. Armed with his distinctive palate of audio tactics, Drumm returns to Editions Mego to deliver ‘Relief’, a 36 minute hypnotic roller coaster ride through…
Crowded
Breathtaking slab of the black stuff from peerless drone/noise (de)composer Kevin Drumm - with "spectral editing and time domain consultation" by Russell Haswell. We shouldn't need to tell you that this is a big deal. But, in case you're a bit daft; it is. Haswell helps out on the wormholing A-side 'Repetitive Algae'; a single tract of cacophonous, morphing rhythmic noise reminding of Philip Corner's 'Coldwater Basin' - a home recording of cold water running from a faucet into a basin - b…
Frozen By Blizzard Winds
The two sonic masters joins forces for an extraordinary collaboration project recorded live at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter in Oslo. Features Marhaug on computer and Drumm on analog synth and guitar.
Venexia
**Vainio and Drumm on one record? Oh f*ck yes - an Immense album mastered & cut by Rashad at D&M to 140g vinyl. Housed in pro-printed inner sleeve and jacket, itself contained in a silkscreened pvc sleeve with artwork by Kathryn Politis & Bill Kouligas.** PAN continue to take action against unoriginal, conformist sound with the release of an incredible, inspired ensemble piece recorded in Venice on May 12th, 2008 by four like-minded and exceptionally talented musicians. Make no mistake; i…
Wrestling
Kevin Drumm, analog synthesizer, electronics. Jérome Noetinger, electronics. Robert Piotrowicz, analog synthesizer, guitar. “What is your name? Wrestling is a unique 7” single consisting of a 3 way tag team made up of Kevin Drumm (USA), Jerome Noetinger (France) and Robert Piotrowicz (Poland). All 3 artists have solid reputations in the world of experimental electronic music. Here they have it out with one another and the machines in front of them. The result is a devastating electronic maelstro…
Out Trios Vol. 2
"The second installment in Atavistic's Out Trios series features three highly regarded Chicago-based artists: guitarist Jeff Parker (Tortoise / Isotope), electronics savant Kevin Drumm (drag city solo / vandermark territory band) and Chicago free jazz titan Michael Zerang (solistice w/hamid drake). Check." (Boomkat)
Sheer hellish miasma
At last, Kevin Drumms classic 2002 album sees a full vinyl release. Crank it! Cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin 27th September 2010 by Rashad Becker. Utilising guitar, tapes, mics, pedals, analogue synthesizer and some computer assistance Drumm has concocted a sonic beast. In doing so one is taken on an intense journey of storming feedback, open audio onslaught and somewhat savaged sonics. The extreme end of anarchic electronics and possibly a hint of musical violence is present throug…
Kevin Drumm
** 180 gram vinyl housed in a heavy textured glossy gatefold de-bossed and spot finished with 2 full page full color glossy inserts. Includes a sealed envelope containing a card with free download code ** The expanded and definitive double LP edition of Kevin Drumm's groundbreaking first album, originally released in 1997. Featuring some of the most fiercely abstract and organic guitar work ever heard, Drumm's debut is both jarring and completely alien. Dubbed by some as the greatest prepared gu…
Untitled
This album is a return to brutality for Drumm and a continuation of the intense lo-end evil of Wiese. Needless to say it is amazing and an essential purchase for noise fans, Mania-inducing heavy waves of suffocating bass frequencies with ripping and tearing, hissing and speaker-destroying hell-storm; at times these guys indulge in noise in the service of the metal that has influenced them via hi-end frequencies, but for the most part this is an expansive record that will immensely satisfy fans o…
Necro Acoustic
The gold-embossed box has been compiled by Norway’s Lasse Marhaug for release on his Pica Disk imprint, and is comprised of the albums Lights Out, Malaise, Decrepit, No Edit and Organ, each housed in individual CD wallets, together with a 24-page wallet. The laptop guitarist and all-round prodigious noise-maker is best known for his game-changing drone and dark ambient albums Sheer Hellish Miasma (Mego, 2002) and Imperial Distortion (Hospital Productions, 2008). Necro Acoustic’s contents are a li…
Second
This is the first re-issue of Kevin Drumm's Second since its original appearance and out-of-print status in 1999. In a limited edition of 500 copies, perdition Plastics is delighted to make this work available once again. Drumm is well-known and respected as a composer and improvisational player. Second is indeed Drumm's second solo release being comprised of three compositions. By appearing, disappearing, and reappearing, subtle and dissonant sounds characterize an internal dialogue within an a…
Impish tyrant
A cd repress of a cassette that was released on the Spite label in 2004. Guitar and electronics. Processed guitar riffs and screeching electronics.
Alku Tape
... probably don’t need to explain this one in too much detail ; it’s a kevin drumm tape (of scattered, alternatingly minimal & harsh guitar pieces recalling his earliest recorded/released work) ; the second “pressing” after the first (of something like 40 copies) disappeared within the opening of the “merch tables” at the no fun fest this past may ...that we got even this scant handful of copies is due mostly to the largesse of alku’s anna & roc ; i wouldn’t dawdle too long if you’re interested…
Imperial horizon
RESTOCKED! Truly an outstanding new album, Imperial Horizon examines sustained tone in greater depth than KEVIN DRUMM’s previous Hospital Productions benchmark album, Imperial Distortion, stretching out minimalism to unreached heights of serene ambience. Lulling electronic drones slowly transform over the course of the hour-plus piece in constant flux, echoing both an existential terror and Zen calm. Mutations grow so quietly, only the body opens to identify this change while the mind closes. Th…
All Are Guests In The House Of The Lord
With so damn many records pouring out, there are precious few artists who strain against sagging shelves and actually merit the “must hear” designation. One of them for me is Kevin Drumm. Widely known “guitarist” and relentless disassembler of technique, expression, and expectation, Drumm has recorded seminal solo records (first on Perdition Plastics, then the epochal Sheer Hellish Miasma), tussled in some notable duos (with, for example, RLW with Ralf Wehowsky), and even shown up to upend some …
Cases
Musique concrete realized 1999/2000 in Chicago and Mainz. Released in a 6-panel digisleeve.
Comedy
Original 1st editon, Comedy is Drumm’s third album, recorded over two years ago. It floated around in a provisional version, entitled Organ, for quite a while and caused a genuine bidding war between labels, at least five of them, which caused our Kevin to retreat in his special endearing way, and ultimately decide not to do anything at all with it. During this hibernation, Organ underwent some changes, being dissected and bisected and now including three electronically generated magnifications,…
Land of lurches
Land Of Lurches is the new release from Chicago’s Kevin Drumm. Two sidelong tracks of diarrheic hailstorms. Land Of Lurches is maximalist diarrhea created in the spirit of true Heavy Metal. That is... it’s ugly, loud, disturbing, courageous, triumphant, and totally fucking POWERFUL! What starts out as a thick relaxing drone quickly turns into a brutal and bloody animal fight. This is the sound of a seal ripping apart a human body while a crowd of 90,000 cheer it on. Kevin is a modern day barbari…
