2010 release ** "Recorded at 21 Grand in Oakland, California, this disc features a truly monster lineup of musicians adding to the Sissy Spacek core duo of John Wiese and Corydon Ronnau. We’ve got guitarists, woodwind, percussion, drum and double bass – hell, even a koto player makes an appearance, and each musician is a shining light of the Californian experimental musical landscape. Guided by a graphic score the musicians play in a semi-improvised manner, eschewing the traditional punk hyperactivity of the band’s usual output and ending up with a sound that owes more to the world of academia than it does to West Coast hardcore and British noise. Clattering percussion rolls over clouds of guitar and sustained horn notes, while Gerritt Wittmer (aka Deathroes) and John Wiese build up dense electronic breezeblocks overhead, bringing it all together in a chatter of illuminating intensity.."
