*200 copies limited edition* Stahlwerk 9 is a German post-industrial project that has existed since the 1990s. Its sound ranges from heavily distorted noise soundscapes and epic dark ambient to, especially in recent releases, more experimental electronic music. In contrast to many others in the 1990s scene, Stahlwerk 9 did not attempt to provoke with fascist aesthetics, but instead focused primarily on other historical and political themes. For example, the Russian Revolution of 1905, the French Revolution, and the anti-Nazi resistance movements of various countries have been central subjects of the project’s albums.

Releases on the artist's own label, Schacht 31, since 2019 have increasingly explored more diverse themes, such as the subarctic zone and Art Nouveau aesthetics.

As the title suggests, the album released by Grubenwehr Freiburg marks the 30th anniversary of the project. It consists of various collaborative tracks with acts from the industrial and noise genres. Among the contributors are longtime collaborators like Antracot and Atrox, as well as newer acquaintances such as Grodock and Mai 12 from Greece.
