Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer recorded Oscar Peterson in his own house in the Black Forest, with a handful of guests and no audience, and the resulting MPS series is the best-sounding body of work Peterson ever produced. Another Day comes from that run: technique that has never been equalled, deployed with a relaxation the concert recordings rarely capture, and an engineering job that puts the piano in the room with you. Peterson took criticism his whole career for playing too many notes. On the MPS records he plays exactly as many as he wants and it sounds like a private performance.
