The Japanese free jazz trio at its most violent, recorded properly for a European label. Yosuke Yamashita played piano as a physical act - forearms, elbows, sustained attack at volumes that broke strings - and with Akira Sakata screaming on alto and Takeo Moriyama hammering behind him the group produced something considerably more brutal than most of what Europe or America was doing at the same moment. Chiasma is one of the few records from this scene that got international distribution at the time, which is why it became the entry point for everybody outside Japan.
