1975, the Roxy in Los Angeles, and Blue Note under George Butler is a very different proposition from the label Alfred Lion ran. This is the crossover era: Donald Byrd deep into the Mizell brothers period, Ronnie Laws and Earl Klugh pushing towards the smooth end, Alphonse Mouzon playing fusion drums at full power, and Carmen McRae providing the link back to an older tradition. The jazz press hated all of it. Fifty years on, the grooves have been sampled to death and the records are collected seriously.

Japanese Blue Note double LP. Seventies Blue Note, which the reissue programmes ignored for decades and the diggers did not.
