Crawling Wind first appeared in 1981 on the Japanese Chaos International Series, and this is its first ever reissue on vinyl. The EP collects three pieces: "Toujours Plus a l'Est", steeped in the traditional music of Eastern Europe (Bulgaria above all, with a sly nod to Professor Calculus from Tintin); "Before The Heat", an ambient composition by Andy Kirk; and "Central Belgium In The Dark", a live improvisation from a period when Univers Zero gave part of their concerts over to free playing.
That last piece holds a small piece of magic: one of Andy Kirk's effects pedals caught and broadcast a mysterious radio signal seemingly out of nowhere, most audible at the very end. The title nods to Charles Ives' "Central Park in the Dark", with "Central Belgium" pointing to the venue in Haine-St-Pierre where it was taped. Named one of the greatest Belgian albums of all time by MOFO magazine in 2000, with the original cover art beautifully redesigned by Thierry Moreau.
