Franck Pourcel was the Pathé-Marconi answer to Mauriat, older, more classically trained (he had led the Marseille opera orchestra), and possessed of a string sound with less sugar and more marble. Japan took to him in the sixties and Odeon issued this Deluxe compilation for the domestic market: the hits, the film themes, Only You, arranged with the symphonic weight that was his trademark.
Pourcel is the easy-listening conductor most likely to be admired by people who dislike easy listening, because his arrangements are essentially light classical music with a rhythm section. Japanese Odeon pressing with obi.
