Two of the three or four most important drummers in the music, alone on a stage, playing directly at each other. Milford Graves and Andrew Cyrille came out of very different places - Graves from Queens and Latin bands and his own private research, Cyrille from eleven years with Cecil Taylor - and Dialogue Of The Drums is the sound of those two vocabularies being laid side by side without either giving ground. No horns to hide behind, no pulse to fall back on, just enormous rhythmic invention sustained across a full LP. Released on their own label in 1974.
Original IPS pressing, self-released. A summit meeting, and a genuine rarity.
