File under avantgarde, free-spirited, and creative music from the Italian Progressive scene
See allThe Prog Rock Italia Series continues with the reissue of Fragments Of Light, the debut album by Sensations’ Fix, a musical project by Franco Falsini, an eclectic musician from Tuscany who has always been dedicated to exploration and electronic experimentation.
After moving to England and the United States to broaden his artistic horizons, Falsini returned to Italy in the early 1970s and formed the trio with Richard Ursillo and Keith Edwards, both of American origin.
Originally released in 1974, the album stands out in the Italian prog scene for its distinctive musical exploration: Falsini loves the electronic sounds of German bands, experiments with keyboards and synthesizers, and adds electronic effects and spacey guitars. The compositions are long and expansive, predominantly instrumental, and feature limited vocal use.
The eleven tracks on Fragments Of Light mark a fine artistic debut for this band; following the evocative interlude of “Nuclear War In Your Brain,” “Music Is Painting In The Air” arrives to confirm the album’s strengths. The album flows between acoustic rides and bursts of elegant electronics. Amid rhythmic bursts and more experimental moments comes “Do You Love Me?”, a psychedelic ballad that seems to hail from the London suburbs.
Produced by director-photographer Filippo Milani (who also designed the band’s album covers), the album was released by Polydor in 1974 and performed by Franco Falsini (vocals, keyboards, synthesizers, and guitar), Richard Ursillo (bass and guitar), and Keith Edwards (drums).
