With Imaginational Anthem vol. XIV: Ireland, curated by acclaimed guitarist and composer Cian Nugent, Tompkins Square shines a light on this vibrant creative vein. The new collection gathers a striking group of Irish guitarists, offering a rare and revealing snapshot of a scene at once deeply rooted in folk tradition and boldly forward-looking. Over nearly two decades, the Imaginational Anthem series has become the definitive showcase for contemporary solo guitar worldwide. From unveiling hidden masters of American Primitive guitar to spotlighting new international voices, the series has consistently expanded the instrument’s horizons. With this 14th installment, the focus turns fully to Ireland, where the guitar is being reimagined in ways both lyrical and daring.  

For Nugent, who has long explored the intersections of folk, psych, and experimental music, serving as curator was a natural extension of his own practice. His selections offer not only a survey of technical brilliance but also a testament to the storytelling and emotional richness that characterizes Ireland’s contribution to the instrument.
