*2025 stock* Org Music proudly presents a definitive reissue of Cecil TaylorLive at the Cafe Montmartre, capturing the legendary pianist and his trio in one of their most celebrated European performances. Recorded live in Copenhagen on November 23, 1962, these sessions feature Taylor alongside alto saxophonist Jimmy Lyons and drummer Sunny Murray, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of avant-garde jazz.

These performances are widely regarded as some of the most vital and innovative in Taylor’s career, showcasing his revolutionary approach to improvisation, rhythm, and collective interaction. The music from this date was originally issued on the influential albums Live at the Cafe Montmartre and Nefertiti, the Beautiful One Has Come, both hailed as landmark recordings in the jazz canon. Critics and historians have praised the trio’s fearless exploration and boundary-pushing energy, with the Penguin Guide to Jazz awarding the material a perfect score and declaring it “among the greatest live recordings in jazz”.

This Org Music edition restores the full breadth and intensity of the original concert, presenting the complete recordings with remastered sound for a new generation of listeners. The release also features insightful liner notes and rare archival material, offering fresh insight into Taylor’s artistic vision and the group’s creative synergy.

Cecil Taylor’s 1962 European tour was a turning point, as the trio embraced complete freedom in their playing—Sunny Murray later reflected, “we had finally decided to be free... we could absorb any different thing at that period, because we were so fresh!”[1] This spirit of discovery and reinvention is palpable throughout the set, from the explosive energy of “Trance” and “D Trad, That’s What” to the lyrical reimagining of the standard “What’s New?”

With this release, Org Music honors one of the most adventurous and influential figures in modern music, ensuring that Cecil Taylor’s legacy continues to inspire and challenge listeners worldwide.
