Paris, August 1969. The Art Ensemble of Chicago had left a city that would not book them and found themselves recording for BYG at a rate of roughly one masterpiece a month. Message To Our Folks is arguably the best of that run: Lester Bowie, Roscoe Mitchell, Joseph Jarman and Malachi Favors moving from a straight reading of "Rock Out" through gospel, through the little instruments, through absolute silence, and landing on a version of Charlie Parker's "Dexterity" that mutates into something else entirely. Great Black Music, Ancient To The Future, stated as a working method rather than a slogan.
Italian Get Back edition of the 1969 BYG Actuel album, gatefold sleeve. Not an original press, but a properly presented one and a great deal cheaper than the alternative.
