On Oneiric, the trio Jane in Ether – Miako Klein, Magda Mayas, Biliana Voutchkova – conjures aliminal realm where composition, improvisation and deep listening dissolve into one another. From the first notes, Miako Klein’s recorders breathe pale, vaporous lines that wind above and beneath Magda Mayas’s prepared piano - a myriad of inside-the-instrument taps, plucked strings, and crystalline echoes. Layered into this sonic mist, Biliana Voutchkova threads violin whispers, glissandi, and a remarkably expressive voice that flutters between language and pure sound. What makes Oneiric uniquely immersive is how the ensemble paints in gradients, letting oneinstrument’s gesture bloom into another’s afterimage, building a mutable fabric out of suggestion and restraint. Rather than chase dramatic gestures, Jane in Ether opts for late-night intimacy - music that barely disturbs the air, yet rewards close, attentive listening with its uncanny detailand emotional authenticity. There are passages where the trio seems to approach silence from all sides, circling around it, letting their smallest noises ring out as revelations. It’s an album best experienced with eyes closed, in the solitary hours, when dreams edge into consciousness and stories are told not with words, but with shadow and resonance.
