*200 copies limited edition* "Emmanuelle Bonnet’s second album is an ode to free horizons, insects, and the passing of time. Prérie(s) is an ethereal moment filled with breath. It is a breeze of warm air which blows a shared space much like into a balloon and traces a way made of the constant search for sonic togetherness. Together, the four musicians expand the bounds of spontaneous composition, toying not only with sound, (non)harmony and textures but also, with each other. Working with words, motives and miniatures, their playing is collective, and their dialogue unfolds with softness and delicacy – like bees savoring a stem of pollen they wouldn’t wish to harm.
The four musicians met during their studies in Basel, Switzerland, and bonded over a common love for improvisation and collective experimentation. From the very first notes of the album, their sound reflects a shared understanding of play and a desire to listen to each other. Composing, in their eyes, happens together. Bonnet brings sonic ideas and fragments of composition as ‘meeting point’, which the group then deploys, planting the musical seeds that later grow into harmonious conversations. Bonnet creates the perfect conditions for the musicians’ togetherness by giving them complete freedom. Her principle is play: a space for each musician to develop their musical ideas, unbound and free, but also the occasion of complete immersion in each musical instant.
Much like the shifting rules and reigns of a blooming prairie, their musical togetherness constantly renegotiates freedom. Together, they create sonic matter and, through it, participate in the very material not only of their prairie/prérie(s) but of our life as well.
Originally from Geneva, Emmanuelle Bonnet first started music by playing the saxophone, later singing ancient music and performing in choirs. From very early on, she liked to improvise and toy with sound, which would take her on various hunts for spaces that offered a particular acoustics to experiment with her voice – like staircases or basements. In her 2025 iteration, that space has enlarged into a Prérie(s), a clearing with open sky, bees and buzzing fireflies, but the quest for sonic immersion remains – except this time, she’s not alone." – Nora Zufferey
