In The Nursery is the Sheffield-based project built around twin brothers Klive and Nigel Humberstone, who have been making music together since 1981 when they formed a trio with guitarist Anthony Bennett. The group emerged from the same Sheffield scene that produced Clock DVA and connected with Cabaret Voltaire, releasing their first record in June 1983 on Paragon and aligning initially with the UK's post-industrial underground. The Temper EP of 1985 was ferociously harsh, built from grinding metal sounds, industrial percussion, and screamed vocals. Then came a turn: Bennett departed, the brothers expanded their sonic palette toward orchestral percussion, classical arrangements, and cinematic electronics, developing over the following decade a sound described consistently as "timeless" in its blending of neoclassical scale with electronic texture. Their music went on to be licensed regularly for film and television, and they completed an acclaimed series of rescored silent films. They are still touring and recording.

This 7LP box set (VOD180) is the most comprehensive retrospective of the group's work ever assembled, drawing on basement tapes from 1981 to 1982, early singles and EPs, rare compilation contributions, a live recording from the Melkweg in Amsterdam from their final show with Bennett in February 1985, and archival material spanning the full arc to 1999. Includes a 52-page photographic booklet with unseen band photography, a T-shirt, and an authentication certificate. Limited to 500 numbered copies on black vinyl. For anyone who wants to trace the full journey from Sheffield's industrial underground to one of the most cinematically ambitious projects the city has ever produced, this is where it starts and ends.
